Terms of Service

These terms govern your use of Vael Check-In, operated by TS STUDIOS, LLC.

The service

Vael Check-In provides a daily telephone visit to an older adult you designate, at a time you choose, from an AI companion. The companion remembers previous conversations. After every visit we send you a short note describing how it went. From time to time the visit may include a recorded life story, which we share with you. Your relative can also call in and reach the same companion.

Our companion is an artificial intelligence, and says so plainly whenever asked. We will never represent it as a human being.

What this service is not

Vael Check-In is companionship. It is not an emergency response service, not a medical service, not a caregiving service, and not a monitoring device. We cannot and do not detect falls, medical emergencies, or health conditions, and you must not rely on it for those purposes. It does not replace medical care, emergency services, or human contact. If your relative needs urgent help, call 911.

If we cannot reach your relative for a scheduled visit, we try again and then send you a courtesy message. That message is a courtesy, not a safety guarantee, and the absence of one means nothing.

Consent — your responsibility

You confirm that the person receiving visits knows about them and welcomes them. This matters more than anything else here. If they ask us to stop, we stop, regardless of your subscription. If we come to believe the visits are unwanted, we may end the service.

Your account

Give us accurate information and keep it current. You're responsible for what happens under your account. You must be 18 or older.

Payment

The subscription is $39.99 per month, billed monthly in advance, beginning after your free trial. Founding families keep their rate for as long as their subscription remains active. Payment is handled by our processor; we never collect payment details by telephone. Fees are non-refundable except where the law requires otherwise.

Free trial and cancellation

The first two weeks are free. Cancel at any time from your account or by writing to hello@vael.care. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period, and there are no cancellation fees.

Text messages

By providing your mobile number and consenting on our signup form, you agree to receive messages about your relative's visits at approximately 1 message per day, plus occasional service messages. Message and data rates may apply. Reply HELP for help, STOP to unsubscribe. Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

Recordings

Visits are recorded so the companion can remember. By subscribing you confirm your relative has been told this. Life story recordings are only kept when your relative agrees in the moment. We own the service; you and your relative keep the life story recordings we share with you, to do with as you wish.

Acceptable use

Don't use the service unlawfully, don't try to break or reverse-engineer it, don't resell it, and don't use it to harass anyone.

Availability

We work hard to call every day, but telephone networks, power, and software all fail sometimes. We don't guarantee uninterrupted service and aren't liable for a missed visit.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim arising from the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim. We are not liable for indirect or consequential damages. Nothing here limits liability for anything that cannot lawfully be limited.

Changes

We may update these terms and will post the new version with a new date. Material changes get notice to subscribers. Continuing to use the service means accepting the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of Washington, without regard to conflict of laws rules.
